Employee Spotlight – Bill McNicoll

Published On: November 21, 2024|

Rothe Development, Inc. is pleased to once again feature one of our outstanding employees.  Our team brings a wide variety of skills, backgrounds and achievements to the table, and we are proud to celebrate the exemplary employees that represent Rothe.  This quarter we are featuring our valued team member, Bill McNicoll.  Should you have any feedback on this new feature or a nomination for an employee to feature in upcoming editions, please reach out to the webmaster.  We are excited to share more about Bill’s contributions to the NASA Space Program!

As a member of the Rothe team since 2017, Bill brings with him a wide range of skills and knowledge from both an engineering and financial standpoint. Originally obtaining his BS and MS degrees in aerospace from Georgia tech, Bill began his career in Advanced Analysis on the Space Shuttle program.  His primary focus during this time was running simulations to help improve Shuttle performance.

Bill spent time looking at the Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS) for use during ascent.  The OMS engines are typically used only after the boosters and external tank are dropped to slow the vehicle to come back down.  To his excitement, during one of the final few launches years later, Bill was able to see the OMS engines lit up during ascent.  By this time Bill had moved on to other jobs but was able to see an idea he had fully realized and put to work!  After his time working on the Space Shuttle Program, Bill worked on the International Space Station program during the early planning days.

After his work as an aerospace engineer, Bill went on to obtain his MBA from University of Houston Clear Lake, and then his MS in accounting.  He currently also holds a certificate in Data Science and Business Analytics from the University of Texas at Austin!  All of these major accomplishments have led Bill to his current position; as the Business Office Manager for the MESC contract onsite at Johnson Space Center.  Bill thoroughly enjoys creating tools and processes to solve problems.  Notably, Bill created a new set of Excel applications to automate processes when Rothe won the JOIST contract.  At the time there was no system or process to generate all of the financial reports required by the contract.  His inventiveness and tenacity with this project heavily streamlined this reporting process.

In addition to his many accomplishments over the years at NASA, in 2023 Bill was awarded the Swiss Army Knife Award.  This is a unique award that has only ever been bestowed upon Bill and recognized his ability to take on many and varied tasks.  With his diverse background and knowledge, it is certainly easy to see why he would receive such an honor!

Bill- Rothe would like to thank you for your amazing seven years of service on our team.  Your drive, creativity and expertise are an asset to not only Rothe, but the space program as a whole.  We look forward to seeing all of the amazing things you achieve in the next few years!
